ALMADA/CACILHAS RESTAURANTS (LISBOA REGION - SOUTH OF THE RIO TEJO)
Useful 'Eating Out' in Portugal tips & service expectations to be aware of:
1. Always check your bill thoroughly! There's a tendency to have little extras slip in here & there which you shouldn't be paying for.
2. The customer is never right in Portugal - so good customer service can be somewhat lacking at times & you may be met with some arrogance.
Hope the above is useful & helps you have a pleasant & better dining experience in Portugal having had this info upfront.

Ponto Final - Rua do Ginjal 72, Cacilhas/Almada
Ponto Final is really charming and its location couldn't be more perfect - the best time to arrive is early evening during the summer months so that you can capture a breathtaking sunset & take in the exceptional views of the 25 de Abril bridge & the magical city of Lisbon, as well as enjoy a romantic dinner - the setting is spectacular! The food has always been super delicious, especially the fish dishes. It's a bit on the pricey side but you're probably paying for the view. We have visited during very busy periods so the service has been rather slow plus served with a little attitude. But this will never put us off - we still believe it's one of the best places around & worth the Rio Tejo (river) crossing if you're travelling from Lisbon.

Fancy an adventure when you next visit Lisbon? Either take in the awesome sights on a Ferry from Cais do Sodre Terminal in Lisbon to Cacilhas or drive across the 25 de Abril bridge through Almada to Cacilhas. Then take a nice 15-20 minute stroll along the Almada/Cacilhas riverbank whilst admiring the fantastic views. You'll encounter abandoned warehouses & run down buildings but this is all part of the adventure. You'll know when you're getting nearer as you will be able to spot the bright yellow chairs from afar.

Atira-te Ao Rio - Rua do Ginjal 69-70, Cacilhas/Almada
We came across this charming little place called 'Atira-te ao Rio' during our stroll along the Cacilhas/Almada riverside & can't wait to dine there the next time we're in town. Its location couldn't be more perfect - the best time to arrive is early evening during the summer months so that you can capture a breathtaking sunset & take in the exceptional views of the 25 de Abril bridge & the magical city of Lisbon, as well as enjoy a romantic dinner - the setting is spectacular! It's advisable to book beforehand as these riverside restaurants get very busy, especially during the summer months. Just remember not to fall over or into the water on the way back - it's very dark, unlit in areas, with no safety railings and a few potholes just to keep you on your toes!...

Alentejo - Almada Forum, Almada
Alentejo is a chain of restaurants normally found in shopping centres dotted around Lisbon. With a super quick service, great value and huge variety of delicious dishes - what more can you ask for? We've become regular visitors as the food is always excellent.
The restaurant has a buffet/counter service which would normally put us off, but the food is really fresh and you can order dishes to be cooked on the spot too. We never get bored with the menu either as it changes every day and offers a wide selection of dishes from the Alentejo region. For those with a sweet tooth the rice pudding is a must! |
We have however had one bad experience when we asked for a steak to be cooked from scratch - the waitress rolled her eyes as she wasn't in the mood, so I immediately cancelled the order rather than get a bad dish - but we haven't let one bad episode change our minds about eating at Alentejo again and again.
