Barragem de Montargil - Mesmerising...

Montargil has recently become a popular place to visit because of its reservoir which was constructed in 1959 to provide irrigation for the surrounding region - today it also supplies electricity.

The Montargil lake is wonderfully tranquil with around 20 kilometres in length. In recent years has become a well known tourist attraction, at Albufeira de Montargil, which is ideal for fishing as well as other water sports, from sailing, canoeing, water skiing, jet ski, to windsurfing. Or you can choose to relax in complete harmony in these marvellous surroundings.

A superb hotel has been re-built on the banks of the lake surrounded by pine and eucalyptus trees. There's also a camping complex where you can either choose to stay on the camp site or in the cabins. The rural countryside is so peaceful it's perfectly ideal for walks, horse riding and cycling off the beaten track.
